  • (SERC) Smithsonian Environmental Research Center

Since 2021 the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center (SERC) and Stillmeadow Peace Park have collaborated to address shared scientific questions and educational goals. SERC and Stillmeadow utilize participatory science and sensors to learn more about the impacts of the restoration work in the Peace Park. This is done by studying heat, insect biodiversity and pollinator activity. These scientific activities scaffold into existing educational and professional development programs at Stillmeadow.

  • USDA Forest Service

The USDA Forest Service is conducting an experiment at Stillmeadow PeacePark to identify a rehabilitation process that improves urban forest health. Scientists installed forest research plots and planted 12 different types of fast-growing hybrid poplars and willows throughout them to help mitigate site degradation in the push toward restoration. Experiments are still underway in these research plots. To learn more about the future and results of this project, visit the USDA Forest Service website linked below.
